Wethersfield Historical Society, chartered in 1932, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and education of Wethersfield’s history. The society has served the Wethersfield and Greater Hartford community for more than three-quarters of a century as a steward of important historic buildings, objects and documents, and has promoted understanding of the past through educational and cultural programs for children and adults.

Wethersfield visitors and residents enjoy a warm welcome seven days a week at the Wethersfield Museum and Visitor Center. The society operates the Town’s only visitor center, open daily to provide information for residents and visitors about Wethersfield’s important history and area attractions.
Children from Wethersfield and surrounding communities learn about history in a fun and interactive way. Children learn-by-doing that history is fun through school and group education programs as well as through community history programs that involve young learners in discovery of their important history.
Researchers find in-depth information about their ancestors, their homes, or special research topics at the Old Academy’s public research library and archival collections. Society staff and volunteers served hundreds of genealogists, students and researchers through access to over 1,000 volumes and hundreds of archived historical documents and photographs at the research library.
Visitors experience the past at important historic buildings. The society preserves and exhibits four museum sites, including the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, Cove Warehouse, Captain James Francis House and Hurlbut-Dunham House. Spanning three centuries of Wethersfield history, these unique structures educate people about the community’s past.

New exhibits feature important objects, information and stories about the entire community. The society’s permanent exhibition Legendary People, Ordinary Lives orients visitors and residents to key topics in Wethersfield’s fascinating history. Changing exhibitions enable visitors to learn about important features of the region’s history and culture.
