Research Resources

Genealogical Library: Each year, some 200 researchers come to Wethersfield to search for their roots and to use our resources. Many others write to us with inquiries which volunteers answer. Others share with us links to online works about Wethersfield, its people and its history.

The research library is located in the 1804 Old Academy building at 150 Main St. It contains approximately 1000 books including genealogies on many of the major Wethersfield families, local and regional histories, secondary source material, shelves of rare books, manuscripts, account books, logs, journals, newspapers, maps, charts and hundreds of photographs of town events, buildings and people. The library is open Tuesday through Friday, 10-4. Appointments may be made for other hours. Call (860) 529-7656. Volunteer researchers will handle written inquiries. If you have a question, give us a try! Write to us at 150 Main St., Wethersfield, CT 06109.

NEW ONLINE FEATURE: Our budding collection of online research sources, WHS Member Articles, is presently located at: www.whs-member-articles.blogspot.com, but will move here soon, when we upgrade our servers and install modern weblog software.

Collections: The collections of the Society encompass many areas which might be of significance to researchers. A generous number of the objects in the collections are part of the furnishings of the museum houses and on display in the permanent exhibition as well as in changing exhibitions which focus on various aspects of Wethersfield history. Arrangement can be made for scholars to have access to the collections for study purposes by contacting the curator at 150 Main St., Wethersfield, CT 06109 or by calling the curator’s office at (860) 529-7656.

Among the collections of interest are:
  • clothing, textiles, and accessories
  • decorative arts
  • toys and dolls
  • furniture
  • agriculture and related tools
  • lighting
  • fine arts
