History Day For Families - September 17, 2011

Family History Day Saturday, September 17, 2011
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Free Admission.

Wethersfield Historical Society will continue its commemoration of the 150th anniversary fo the Civil War with a day of living history!

 

Meet Private William Webb! William Webb was a soldier in the 29th Regiment of Connecticut Colored Tropps. At 1PM, Webb will tell about his experiences in the Civil War.

 

Family History DayJoin Juleps & Viragoes as they provide 1860s civilan, home-front demonstrations such as music, dance, fashion and quilting. You will have the opporunity to write letters to a Wethersfield Civil War soldier while viewing copies of orginial letters. Visit our new exhibit, Love Letters and Uniforms: Wethersfield During the Civil War.

The Lantern Light Tours are back by popular demand for a spooky and historical account of Wethersfield’s past. Join your guide as you travel through history on Main Street and in the Ancient Burying Ground.

Tickets are pre-sale, $15 per adult, Children 16 & under $7. Suggested age is 7 & over. Activities & refreshments to follow your tour in the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center.

History Day For Families With George Washington - May 21, 2011

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Free Admission.

Come see General George Washington, Revolutionary War reenactors and horses from the Second Continental Light Dragoons, Sheldon’s Horse, the United Train of Artillery and Doughty’s Artillery encamped at the Keeney Center. They will patrol the town and fire cannons in salute to General Washington and all American Armed Forces on this 230th anniversary of Washington’s meeting in Wethersfield with French General Rochambeau. A Burying Ground Tour will be offered at 10 a.m. and exhibits, games for children and a mini- Farmers’ Market will also be offered at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, 200 Main Street in Wethersfield.
