The Wethersfield Historical Society is seeking volunteers at The Wethersfield Museum, Hurlbut-Dunham House and Cove Warehouse. Flexible scheduling, no experience necessary and training provided! Adult

Keeney Docent

This person is the chief ambassador of the Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center who maintains a good relationship with the public at the main reception desk. He or she greets visitors, takes admission fees, answers the phone and transfers calls/takes messages. Main Desk personnel service the building during the hours it is open to the public, Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm and Sunday, 1-4. Your schedule will be set at your own convenience, usually two 3-hour sessions a month. Hurlbut-Dunham House Guide

This person leads tours of this handsome brick Georgian built in the 1790s and updated in the Victorian Style. No touring experience is necessary, but a guide must be energetic, knowledgeable about the material and willing to answer questions. The House is open on weekends from June-October and also in December; Saturday, 10am-4pm and Sunday, 1pm-4pm. Usually one 3-hour shifts per month are scheduled at your convenience. Cove Warehouse Guide

This person welcomes visitors to the 17th century Cove Warehouse that celebrates the town’s colorful maritime past. A guide must be knowledgeable about the material and willing to answer any questions the visitor might have on their self-guided tour of the building and exhibits. The Warehouse is open from mid-May to mid-October, Saturday, 10am-4pm; Sunday, 1-4pm. Three hour shifts are scheduled at your convenience. Museum Educator

This person works primarily with school children from nursery school age to grade 12, teaching students about Wethersfield’s history, architecture or way-of-life. People from all professional backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome. Training is provided by veteran museum teachers. The educational programs are varied ranging from open hearth cooking for small children to the 3rd Grade Architecture Walk to the four popular Witch of Blackbird Pond programs for middle school aged children. Museum teachers have the option of learning any program(s) they choose and your schedule is set at your convenience. Keeney Kids Teen Teacher Assistants

A volunteer position for high school age students to assist Keeney Kids teachers with classroom management and activities. Duties may include assisting children with games and activities, assisting with serving snacks and moving children from one location to another.
